TONY GREENWAY

Business and Lifestyle Journalist

The best thing about being a freelance journalist — apart from the 10-second commute to work — is that you get to write about every subject under the sun.

Which is what I do: movies, television, theatre, home interiors, travel, food, art and design, business, health, women in STEM and what happens when lots of plastic ends up in the sea (answer: let’s just say it’s not good).

I’ve had regular columns in regional magazines where I’ve covered everything from Why Debbie Harry is a Rock Icon (fairly obvious, really) to the right beverage to serve with my mum’s recipe for cheese potato mash and tinned spaghetti (a cup of tea, thanks. Two sugars).

I’ve interviewed film stars, TV presenters, musicians, authors, supermodels, various sporting types and a Spice Girl. Then again, I’ve also interviewed professors of robotics, leading entrepreneurs, NASA scientists and — once — a man who created a mind-controlled skateboard. Honest.

I regularly write articles for supplements that appear with The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Irish Independent, City AM and New Scientist. I’ve been published in Empire, Total Film, Artscene, The Daily Mirror, Coast, Country Homes and Interiors, 25 Beautiful Homes, Livewire, and Yorkshire Life, among many others.

I’ve edited numerous lifestyle and business titles, too, including Leeds Life, City, and Delivered, the global customer magazine for Deutsche Post DHL Group. Plus, as a copywriter, I’ve produced eye-catching magazines, brochures, websites and advertorials for leading recruitment consultancies, luxury retail brands, five star hotels, Northern Rail and Morrisons.

Today, I’m talking to Celebrity X Factor contestants and social media superstars, Max and Harvey. Tomorrow, I’m interviewing a Director from the United Nations about the scourge of food waste and how the world can achieve zero hunger.

Hey. I like variety.
